Pediatric Feeding Groups

Do you prepare a separate meal for your “picky eater”?

Does your toddler present with sensory issues, food aversions, behavioral or feeding challenges?

Are you wondering how to introduce solids?

Are you curious on how to teach straw drinking?

Do you want to learn strategies to target increased acceptance in the home through a sensory and responsive approach?

pediatric feeding groups

Our pediatric feeding group allows children to participate in activities that encourage exploration of different textures, tastes and temperatures in a fun and supportive way. These groups also provide a space for parents and caregivers to learn strategies to support their child’s eating habits at home, promote healthy eating behaviors and build confidence around mealtime. Groups will help children build a better relationship with food and address underlying issues such as anxiety, sensory processing challenges and behavioral challenges around food.

The First Foodies group is geared towards babies 6-12 months of age focusing initially on readiness, confidence and trust around newly introduced foods. The group will then discuss success with utensils and straws and exploration of familiar and novel foods, tastes and mixed textures through play.

The Little Foodies group is geared towards 14-18 months of age focusing on building confidence and trust around newly introduced foods.  Initial sessions will focus on success with utensils and straws and then exploration of novel foods. Multiple sessions will provide opportunities to explore new foods, new textures and mixed textures through play.

This group will be led by SOS trained therapist Marissa Baras, MS CCC-SLP. She has been working with young children in the area of feeding for over 10 years. She is a dedicated therapist and has also been working as an Early Intervention certified therapist and evaluator. Marissa is trained and knowledgeable in a variety of feeding strategies, including Get Permission, SOS, TalkTools and Baby led weaning.

All courses will include a total of 60 minutes for consultation with Marissa to discuss your child’s unique needs. Handouts and home programs will also be provided to encourage further skill development and generalization to the home.
